OVERVIEW
Gotland is a large Baltic island with farmland, pine forest and a long limestone coast. Visby, the main town, preserves a medieval wall, church ruins and stone houses, while rural villages and beaches are spread across the island. Sea stacks and low cliffs create distinctive coastal scenery. The wider destination extends from forest towards beaches, with local communities occupying the ground between them.
Cycling and driving reveal a quiet interior of farms, churches and small communities. Summer brings major events and busy streets in Visby, while other seasons are far calmer. The island’s scale rewards several days beyond the main town. Beaches is experienced differently from forest, so both areas contribute useful but separate perspectives.
