OVERVIEW
Ganja is one of Azerbaijan’s oldest cities, built on a broad plain near the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus. The centre contains red brick civic buildings, mosques, parks and broad avenues, while residential districts spread beyond the historic core. The city is closely associated with the poet Nizami and long standing craft traditions. Lakes and markets belong to the same connected landscape, although they often feel distinct on arrival.
Public gardens and low rise streets give the centre a calmer rhythm than the capital. Museums and monuments provide context, while nearby mountains and lakes add regional excursions. The city is less visitor oriented, making markets, cafés and everyday neighbourhood life especially valuable. Mountain terrain provides the most immediate experience, while lake shore offers a quieter and more local perspective.
