OVERVIEW
Fuji Five Lakes is a group of lakes on the northern side of Mount Fuji, surrounded by forests, small towns and volcanic terrain. Several viewpoints offer classic reflections of the mountain, while caves, shrines and walking routes reveal the wider landscape. The area has multiple bases rather than one central settlement.
Clear views of the volcanic cone depend heavily on weather and are often best early in the day. Cycling, boating and short hikes provide alternatives when cloud hides the summit, while hot springs and small towns vary around each lake. Distances are greater than they appear, so a car or carefully planned local transport makes exploration considerably easier.

THINGS TO DO
Take in the view from Itchiku Kubota Art Museum
Set aside time at Itchiku Kubota Art Museum specifically for the natural panorama, not merely as a stop between activities. Visibility and access can change with weather and season. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Unwind in Fuji Five Lakes
Plan restorative time at Fuji Five Lakes’ principal wellness area, checking whether advance booking, swimwear or local bathing customs apply. Thermal and outdoor facilities can also have seasonal restrictions.
Cycle Fuji Five Lakes’ principal route
Choose a cycling route around Fuji Five Lakes’ principal cycling route that matches your fitness and the available time. Check gradients, surfaces and traffic rather than judging the ride by distance alone.
Cycling
2 hours to full day
Hike around to Mt. Mitsutōge
Choose a walk around to Mt. Mitsutōge that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Hiking
2 hours to full day
