OVERVIEW
Fuerteventura is a low, arid Canary Island with broad beaches, rolling volcanic hills and long stretches of sparsely settled coast. Resort towns are concentrated around several bays, while inland villages and goat farms preserve a quieter rural character. The landscape feels more open and desert like than on greener neighbouring islands.
Corralejo’s dunes, the wild road to Cofete and the old inland town of Betancuria show very different sides of the island. Constant wind supports surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, while the open volcanic plains reward long drives. Resort areas have good services, but the most memorable landscapes often lie along rougher roads.
