OVERVIEW
Espiritu Santo is the largest island in Vanuatu, with rainforest, cattle farms, rivers and a deeply indented coast. Luganville provides the main town and transport centre, while villages and natural attractions are spread across long distances. The island also contains major Second World War diving sites.
Champagne Beach, freshwater blue holes and the wreck of the SS President Coolidge are the island’s best known attractions. Luganville provides practical services, but villages, plantations and remote bays spread far beyond it. Roads outside the main corridor can be rough, so guides and realistic travel times are important.

THINGS TO DO
Trace Espiritu Santo’s wartime history
Use Espiritu Santo’s wartime history to understand a specific part of Espiritu Santo’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Dive at Espiritu Santo’s principal sites
Dive around Espiritu Santo’s principal dive sites with an operator suited to your certification and experience. Visibility, currents and access change with conditions, and particular sightings are never guaranteed.
Spend time at Lonnoc Beach rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
