OVERVIEW
Dilijan lies in a wooded valley in northern Armenia, surrounded by protected forest, streams and low mountains. The town developed as a health resort and contains sanatoria, parks and a restored old street of stone and timber buildings. Monasteries and villages are scattered through the surrounding hills.
Walking routes, lake trips and monastery visits provide the main activities. The forested setting is unusual in a country often associated with drier landscapes. Development is increasing, but quiet trails and small guesthouses still give the area a relaxed rural feel. Traditional food and small craft businesses add a local layer to the forest setting.
