Da Lat stands on a high plateau surrounded by pine forest, lakes and cultivated hills. Its cooler climate encouraged the development of villas, gardens and agricultural estates, while the modern city now spreads across steep streets and valleys. Flowers, coffee, vegetables and strawberries remain important parts of the regional economy.
Markets, cafés and lakeside walks provide an easy urban rhythm, while flower farms, coffee plantations and waterfalls lie just outside the centre. Traffic and rapid development have changed the city’s appearance, and some attractions feel highly staged. Even so, cool air, pine covered hills and surrounding agriculture still distinguish it sharply from the tropical lowlands.
