OVERVIEW
The Costa del Bálsamo follows a steep section of El Salvador’s Pacific coast, where volcanic cliffs drop towards black-sand beaches and sheltered coves. Fishing villages, surf breaks and low-rise holiday communities are connected by a winding coastal road. Dense vegetation covers the slopes above the sea.
Surfing is the main draw, with several breaks suited to different skill levels and a growing group of small coastal hotels. Dark sand coves, steep wooded slopes and fishing communities give the shoreline a rougher character than flatter resort zones. Development is increasing, but narrow roads and rugged terrain still limit large scale construction.
