OVERVIEW
Cabo Polonio is a tiny coastal settlement surrounded by protected dunes and reached by authorised four-wheel-drive vehicles across the sand. Simple houses cluster near a lighthouse and rocky headland, while long beaches extend in both directions. Electricity, paved streets and conventional resort development remain limited, giving the village a physical character shaped more by wind, sea and sand than by urban infrastructure.
Beach walks, lighthouse views and a large sea-lion colony provide the main points of interest. Nights are notably dark and quiet, and changing weather can make the exposed coast feel very different from one day to the next. Accommodation and dining are basic compared with established resorts, but that simplicity is central to the experience.
