OVERVIEW
Burabay is a lake and forest region in northern Kazakhstan, where granite ridges rise from otherwise open steppe. Several clear lakes, pine woods and distinctive rock formations are concentrated around a compact resort area. A small settlement provides accommodation and services, while roads and trails connect beaches, viewpoints and quieter stretches of woodland.
Swimming, boating and hiking are the main summer activities, with short climbs revealing wide views across water and forest. Resorts and sanatoria can be busy during holidays, but quieter paths begin beyond the main lakefront. The sharp contrast between wooded hills and surrounding plains gives the region its unusual character.
