OVERVIEW
Broome lies on the north-west coast of Australia, where red earth meets pale sand and turquoise water. The town grew around pearl diving and retains Japanese, Chinese, Indigenous and European influences in its cemeteries, museums and old commercial streets. Cable Beach forms the main coastal landmark, with enormous tidal changes and long sunset views.
Pearl farms, Indigenous cultural tours and boat trips into nearby marine areas add depth beyond the beach. The dry season brings clear weather and high visitor numbers, while the wet season is hotter and less predictable. Distances to other towns are vast, reinforcing the sense of isolation that shapes local life.
