OVERVIEW
Brač is one of the largest islands in the central Adriatic, with a mountainous interior and a coast of harbour towns, pebble beaches and sheltered bays. Pale limestone quarried here has shaped local villages and major buildings far beyond the island. The highest point provides wide views across neighbouring islands and the mainland.
The southern resort has the best known beach and active water sports, northern ports feel more residential, and inland settlements preserve olive farming and stone carving traditions. Roads make exploration straightforward, though the island is large enough to reward choosing a base. Hiking to the highest point reveals how sharply the coast, fields and villages differ.
