Bokonbayevo is a small town on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, a vast high-altitude lake in eastern Kyrgyzstan. Dry hills rise behind the settlement, while beaches, farmland and yurt camps spread along the shore. The town provides markets and basic services for travel through the quieter southern side of the lake.

Local families organise horse riding, eagle-hunting demonstrations and stays in yurts or village homes. The area feels more rural than the larger resorts on the northern shore, with long open views across water towards snow-covered mountains. Facilities are simple, but the combination of lake, pasture and living traditions gives the region clear character.
