OVERVIEW
Bodrum occupies a sheltered bay on Turkey’s south-west coast, with white houses climbing low hills around a marina and medieval castle. The town stands on the site of ancient Halicarnassus, once home to one of the classical world’s great tombs. Beaches, restaurants and nightlife now spread along the waterfront and nearby coves.
The castle and underwater archaeology museum provide a strong historical centre, while boat trips reveal quieter bays along the peninsula. Summer evenings are lively, especially around the marina and bar streets. Development is extensive, but traditional markets and nearby villages preserve a more local side beyond the central resort area.
