OVERVIEW
Bellingham sits on a bay in north-west Washington, close to the Canadian border and beneath the Cascade Mountains. A historic brick district, university neighbourhoods and a working waterfront give the city more character than a simple transit point. Ferries, coastal roads and mountain routes begin nearby, linking the urban area with a much larger landscape.
Breweries, cafés and local markets create an active centre, while parks and trails reach into forests and along the shore. The scenic road south of the city provides views over islands and tidal flats. Rain is frequent outside summer, but the combination of water, mountains and a manageable urban scale supports year-round outdoor access.
