OVERVIEW
Beaune is a compact walled town in eastern France surrounded by some of Burgundy’s best-known vineyards. Its centre preserves medieval and Renaissance buildings, including a former charitable hospital with a distinctive patterned roof. Wine merchants, cellars and specialist shops reflect the town’s long role in the regional wine trade.
Tastings and vineyard visits are central, but markets, churches and quiet residential lanes give the town interest beyond wine. The surrounding villages and estates are spread across the countryside, so driving or organised tours are useful for exploring widely. Within the old walls, most sights, cellars and restaurants are close enough to reach on foot.
