OVERVIEW
Battambang is a regional town in western Cambodia, with colonial-era streets, markets and residential neighbourhoods beside the Sangker River. Rice farming and local commerce remain central to the surrounding province. Temples, villages and former conflict sites lie beyond the centre, making the town a useful base for understanding rural north western Cambodia.
Art spaces, cafés and restored buildings have brought new energy to the centre without changing its provincial scale. Short excursions lead to hill temples, caves and traditional workshops, while the well-known bamboo train offers a simple ride through farmland. Compared with Cambodia’s largest tourist centres, the pace is slower and the urban experience more local.

Trace local history at Wat Samrong Knong
Use Wat Samrong Knong to understand a specific part of Battambang’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
