OVERVIEW
Barbuda is a low coral island with long pale beaches, lagoons and a single principal settlement. Much of the coast remains undeveloped, while the Codrington Lagoon supports one of the Caribbean’s largest frigatebird colonies. Hurricane damage and rebuilding continue to shape housing, infrastructure and debates over the island’s future.
Beach and boat travel dominate, with few formal attractions or built-up resort areas. Hurricane damage has repeatedly affected homes and infrastructure, and reconstruction has changed parts of the island. Services can be limited, but the combination of wildlife, open coastline and low population creates a sense of space that is increasingly rare in the Caribbean.

THINGS TO DO
Snorkel around Barbuda’s principal snorkelling waters only when sea conditions and access are suitable. Use local guidance where currents or reefs are unfamiliar, and never promise particular marine-life sightings.
Look for island wildlife in Barbuda
Look for wildlife around Barbuda’s island wildlife with attention to habitat and responsible viewing distances. Seasons affect animal movement, and wild sightings should never be guaranteed. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Find Barbuda’s best-known beaches
Spend time at Barbuda’s best-known beaches rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water.
