OVERVIEW
Banaue is a small highland town in northern Luzon surrounded by rice terraces cut into steep mountain slopes. Many terraces have been cultivated by Ifugao communities for generations, using stone or earth walls and carefully managed water channels. The town serves as a practical base, while the most dramatic landscapes lie in nearby villages reached by winding roads and footpaths.
Walking through the terraces reveals homes, granaries and working fields rather than a landscape preserved only for tourism. Conditions can be muddy and routes steep, especially after rain. Viewpoints near the town provide easy access to broad panoramas, but longer walks and village stays give a clearer sense of how agriculture and community life remain connected.
