OVERVIEW
Alanya is a coastal city in southern Turkey, arranged around a rocky peninsula topped by a large medieval fortress. Long sandy beaches extend on both sides, while the old harbour contains defensive towers, boat trips, restaurants and busy evening streets. Modern hotels and residential districts spread along the coast, making the destination much larger than the historic centre visible from the castle.
The castle hill, harbour and beaches can be combined easily, although steep slopes and summer heat make pacing important. Boat trips and coastal viewpoints are popular, while restaurants and residential streets farther inland show a busier working city beyond the resort waterfront. Peak-season traffic and crowds are the main trade-offs.

THINGS TO DO
Taste regional food scene in Alanya
Use Alanya’s regional food scene as a starting point for tasting food connected to Alanya, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
Cruise Alanya’s main waterways
Choose a boat trip that gives a clear view of Alanya’s main waterways and the surrounding landscape. Routes and operating periods vary, so confirm the departure point and current schedule.
Trace local history at Alanya Archaeological Museum
Use Alanya Archaeological Museum to understand a specific part of Alanya’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Look closely at Inner Castle for a concrete introduction to Alanya’s built character. Notice the materials, street setting and later changes as well as the main façade.
Find Alanya’s rocky coves
Spend time at Alanya’s rocky coves rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water.
