OVERVIEW
Adana is a large city in southern Turkey, built beside a broad river on the fertile plain between the Mediterranean coast and inland mountains. A Roman stone bridge, a major mosque and older market streets provide the clearest historical landmarks, while modern commercial districts extend far beyond the centre. The city is especially well known for its grilled meat, spicy dishes and strong regional food culture.
Food is often the most immediate way into the city, from specialist kebab restaurants to busy markets and riverside cafés. The centre contains enough architecture and museums for focused exploration, but the wider city feels practical and lived-in rather than arranged for tourism. Nearby archaeological sites and countryside add context, while the river gives the dense urban area a useful point of orientation.
