OVERVIEW
Acapulco curves around a deep bay on Mexico’s Pacific coast, with dense neighbourhoods and hotels climbing the surrounding hills. The city became an international resort in the mid-twentieth century and remains known for beaches, nightlife and divers who leap from high sea cliffs into a narrow inlet. Its urban area is extensive, with older districts, modern hotel zones and residential hillsides forming very different parts of the destination.
The bay is still the city’s clearest asset, especially when viewed from hillside roads or the water. Beaches vary from busy urban stretches to smaller coves, while seafood restaurants and late-night venues reflect the city’s long holiday culture. The destination has faced serious security and storm-recovery challenges, so current official advice and local conditions should be checked separately from this general overview.
