OVERVIEW
Acadia is a national park on the coast of Maine in the north-eastern United States, centred mainly on a large island connected to the mainland by road. Granite peaks rise directly above forests, lakes and a rugged Atlantic shoreline, creating strong landscape changes within short distances. Historic carriage roads, coastal paths and mountain trails make much of the park accessible without requiring long backcountry journeys.
Visitors can combine sunrise viewpoints, woodland walks, lake shores and wave-battered cliffs within the same day. The nearby harbour town provides accommodation and restaurants, but some of the park’s quieter sections lie away from its busiest roads. Summer traffic can be heavy, so early starts and use of the seasonal shuttle make the experience more manageable without reducing the park to its most crowded viewpoints.
