Aarhus is Denmark’s second-largest city, set around a broad bay on the east coast of the country’s mainland peninsula. The centre combines pedestrian shopping streets, an older quarter of small lanes and houses, and a modern waterfront built on former port land. Large art and history museums are among its strongest attractions, but cafés, markets, design shops and public spaces make the city feel active beyond formal sightseeing.

Major museums sit comfortably alongside food halls, small shops, cafés and neighbourhood streets, so cultural visits do not dominate the whole experience. The harbour, beach and older centre are close enough to combine without a rigid plan. A large student population keeps public spaces busy and gives the city a younger character than its historic core might suggest.
